Day 6-7: Hamilton, Bermuda
The stories about Bermuda are true: The sand is pink, the water an irresistible turquoise, and the traffic in Hamilton is indeed directed by constables wearing—you guessed it—Bermuda shorts. Hamilton has its own unique style, and is full of pastel-hued historic buildings, lush parks and gardens, set alongside a natural harbor. Front St. is the pulse of Hamilton and many of the stately Victorian buildings have been converted into shops, boutiques, and restaurants where you can dine on fresh seafood or sip a dark and stormy — Bermuda’s official drink — while watching the comings and goings of the picturesque harbor.
After just a few hours on this idyllic place, you’ll understand why Mark Twain famously said, “You go to heaven if you want—I’d rather stay here in Bermuda.”
Day 8-11: Day at Sea
The Azamara experience doesn’t pause when you depart a destination. The experience continues onboard with their top-tier crew, premiere service and fleet of boutique ships. Authentic service every step of the way. A luxurious boutique hotel at sea, the Azamara Journey® is a mid-sized ship with a deck plan that’s intimate but never crowded, and offers everything modern voyagers are looking for.
Day 12: Horta, Azores
Almost 900 miles from the coast of Portugal and over 3,000 miles from the US, the volcanic islands of the Azores are, literally, out in the middle of nowhere. And it’s a spectacular place to be. The stunning beauty of the wild blooming hydrangeas backed by stark black volcanic cliffs would be enough on its own. But there’s incredible hiking, world-class fishing, and whales to watch as well. The latter is best done from the island of Faial, at the marina of Horta. There’s a passage between two of the islands here that’s part of the sperm whale migration route you could be on a rubber raft up close to pods of them surfacing right next to you.
This is a world of things you’ve probably never seen before: fumaroles, mudpots and scalding springs; caverns, columns and grottoes formed from once molten rock; blue lakes ringed by forests of laurel and cedar, and green pastures patterning the slopes of calderas. On the nearby island of Pico, you can visit Unesco-listed volcanic vineyards and descend into one of the world's longest lava tubes. Whether you decide to hike the volcano or ride around a crater lake on a mountain bike, the Azores are one of Europe’s last great island adventures.
Day 13: Ponta Delgada, Azores
Situated 1,200km off the coast of Portugal, the Azores are a group of nine Portuguese islands. Ponta Delgada, located on the island of São Miguel, is the largest city of the islands. It's home to a number of eco-attractions like Furnas with its natural hot springs, the nature reserve of Lagoa do Fogo—where volcanic landscapes and beautiful beaches vie for attention—and the crater lakes of Sete Cidades National Park. Explore the city centre for shops, cafés and the historical landmark Church of Sao Jose. Go to the marina for big game fishing and speedboat racing, or explore the old Portuguese town of Riberia Grande. If you don’t make it to a pineapple plantation, try the “king of fruits” at a local market, as Ponta Delgada is renowned for its pineapple, as well as fresh seafood and local wines and liquors.
Day 14: Day at sea
Azamara Club Cruises® are always moving forward to bring you the most incredible, immersive cruise experience. They’ve jazzed (and opera’ed) up their current playbill to include a lineup of refreshing shows and talent designed to make your voyage all the more unforgettable.
Or if you fancy a flutter, test your skill, or prove to your fellow guests that beginner's luck is real. The Casino will keep you entertained with blackjack, roulette, slot machines, and three-card poker games. Group and individual gaming lessons are offered at no charge—a great way to learn gaming strategy!
Day 15: Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world. Its magnificent harbour made it a logical trading port as far back as the Phoenicians, as well as a departure point for 15th century voyages sponsored by Prince Henry the Navigator, patron of Portuguese explorers. The city is rich in architecture, from Romanesque and Gothic to postmodern, and criss-crossed by monument-studded grand boulevards. Today it is seeking a place on the world stage by hosting, in addition to its own active cultural calendar, film festivals, art, fashion and design shows, book fairs, marathons, and rock concerts.
Day 16: Disembark in Lisbon
Disembark Azamara Journey and a private transfer will take you to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
