Australia's largest attraction is its natural beauty. The landscape varies from endless sunbaked horizons to dense tropical rainforest to chilly southern beaches. Scattered along the coasts, its cities blend a European enthusiasm for art and food with a laid-back love of sport and the outdoors.
Visitors expecting to see an opera in Sydney one night and meet Crocodile Dundee the next will have to re-think their grasp of geography in this huge country. It is this sheer vastness that gives Australia - and its diverse population much of its character.
Any time is a good time to be in Australia. Summer in Australia is December to February when it can get uncomfortably hot but it is superb beach weather. In the North the summer wet season is very humid. Winter is June to August and you can even ski in New South Wales, Victoria and occassionaly Tasmania. The weather in Spring and the Autumn is quite mild.
Australia covers an area of 2,966,136 sq miles with a population of 19,500,000 people. Its capital city is Canberra.
The Cook Islands are Wafer-thin cays with white-sand beaches and lush green volcanic mountains. People are extremely friendly. There is plenty of opportunity to go from hero to zero with adrenalin sports including caving and hiking to snorkelling and lazing. The Cook Islands has a lovely even climate all year round, with no excesses of temperature or humidity, however it can rain quite often and the best times of year to visit are deffinately between September and October, when you will experience warm temperatures and reduced humidity. Also, March and April are good months to visit as the cyclone season has finished and the skies are mainly clear and sunny.
New Zealand is the youngest country on earth - the last major landmass to be discovered. It has a rich and fascinating history, reflecting both its Maori and European heritage. Amazing Maori historic sites and taonga (treasures), some dating back almost a thousand years, are a contrast to many beautiful colonial buildings. A walk around any New Zealand city today will show what a culturally diverse and fascinating country New Zealand has become.
New Zealand is similar in size and/or shape to Great Britain, Colorado and Japan, with a population of only 4 million. This therefore makes it one of the world's least crowded countries. It is a haven for those seeking peace, rejuvenation and relaxation as well as a playground for the thrill seekers and adventurers. A temperate climate with relatively small seasonal variation makes it an ideal year-round holiday / cruise ship destination.
