Atlantic Coast – Iberia
There’s a luxuriously airy feel to life on board Oceana – she’s the perfect ship for sun and fun.
In December 2017, she enjoyed a spruce-up that helped bring her on-board experiences up to the highest standards. The refit was led by RPW Design, a leading hospitality interior design practice. Elizabeth Lane, RPW’s director of projects, says:
Oceana is youthful and colourful as a personality. She’s bright and sunny and we placed great importance on the outside decks.
This is evident in the alfresco Terrace Bar, where a new colour scheme, elegant furniture and feature tiling have created a retreat-style feel. Spaces such as Magnums Champagne bar and The Yacht & Compass bar were also refreshed, and the children’s clubs and teen areas were brought to life through new colour schemes and furniture.
P&O Cruises Senior Vice President Paul Ludlow tells us about the improvements and benefits guests can look forward to:
Oceana is one of our favourite family-friendly ships. She’s mid-sized with lots of outdoor space and indoor entertainment – perfect for all age ranges with something for everyone. There are lots of options to have fun, be entertained or simply relax in the sunshine. Adults particularly love the choice of five dining options, the wide array of bars and lounges, the quality of entertainment and, of course, the chance to relax and unwind with three pools, five whirlpool spas and the Oasis Spa. Children are equally happy with plenty of distractions and chances to make new friends – the wide deck spaces are great for exploring when not hanging out in the children’s clubs.
Due to her wide deck spaces, Oceana is the ideal sunshine ship. She’s racked up countless nautical miles on our Mediterranean fly-cruise routes and many guests will have enjoyed superb itineraries to Europe’s great ports of call with Oceana as their home base. She’s got everything you need to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
We know that happy family holidays hinge on happy children, and we’re proud of Oceana’s first-rate reputation for keeping little ones and older children thoroughly entertained. Our children’s clubs are the perfect places to meet new friends and join in a huge range of activities – and we’ve revisited the layout of this area and revitalised some key features. For example, we’ve introduced fresh colour schemes and new storage systems and improved the soft-play features. The spaces themselves have been reviewed and the night nursery is now relocated to the end of the area to maximise the play spaces and keep the nursery in a calm, quiet space.
Beyond these zones, the layout of the ship has been carefully designed to help families navigate and explore, while there are great family dining options and activities to enjoy. Oceana is the perfect family ship.
Food plays a big part in any holiday, and wherever you are in the world, each port of call has its own delicious local delicacies. From noodle dishes in Singapore’s hawker stalls to Germany’s famous bratwurst, street food provides a fast, tasty and affordable glimpse into a country’s cuisine.
To bring some of this international flavour on board, Oceana now offers a Street Food Kitchen on deck, allowing guests to sample tasty, casual food that’s inspired by our travels.
Guests can choose from three categories of food each day: international street food, Great British classics, and regional dishes tailored to the ship’s ports of call. Sample dishes include:
• Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken Bites with Waffles and Red Cabbage Slaw, inspired by the USA
• Rare Roast Beef Yorky with Horseradish, Colman’s and Sticky Onions, inspired by Great Britain
• Spicy Prawn Quesadilla with Pico de Gallo and Mozzarella, inspired by Spain
• Salt and Pepper Squid with Green Papaya Salad, Peanuts and Chilli, inspired by the Caribbean
The menus change on every fourth day, so there’s always something new to try. Food is served street-style with accompaniments and dips.
The kitchen is open daily from 11.30am to 6pm, and guests can grab a plate and a drink then relax in a sun lounger on the open deck. A soft drink is included with all food items purchased, and alcoholic beverages can be bought for an additional cost. There’s draught lager on tap, and a range of Jude’s Ice Cream is also available.
