Hurtigruten Start Adventures from Liverpool & Portsmouth

4th March 2021 – Hurtigruten, the expedition cruise brand, has today launched a series of adventurous new itineraries to explore the beauty and nature of the British Isles and Iceland, with departures from Liverpool and Portsmouth aboard state-of-the-art hybrid powered ship, the MS Fridtjof Nansen.

With sailings from 7th May 2022, the three new sailings will join Dover and Glasgow departures in offering guests the chance to experience expedition sailings closer to home.

Anthony Daniels, General Manager UK and EMEA at Hurtigruten, said:

We are delighted to increase our support for the UK cruise industry with the introduction of new expedition cruises departing from Liverpool and Portsmouth. MS Fridtjof Nansen now joins MS Maud and MS Spitsbergen, as Hurtigruten ships homeporting in Dover and Glasgow respectively, in 2021, 2022 and 2023. We have seen very encouraging booking trends since the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown was released last week, and we look forward to welcoming passengers on board, once safe to do so.

Historic ports to spectacular scenery

From Portsmouth to Reykjavík, the three itineraries offer guests the opportunity to experience areas of natural beauty, rich wildlife, and historic sites.

Fowey, Cornwall

Historic Ports of the English Channel and Irish Sea is a 4-day itinerary taking passengers from historic Portsmouth to the famous docks of Liverpool. The onboard expedition teams will bring passengers closer to the coast’s history, culture, and nature – including the beautiful Cornish fishing village of Fowey where pirates once smuggled rum and gold; Waterford in Ireland found by the Vikings in the 9th century; and Liverpool the city of modern culture.

  • Departure date: 7th May 2022 – Portsmouth to Liverpool

Ancient Ties and Natural Wonders takes explorers on a 15-day adventure to explore the ancient ties and natural wonders in a full circumnavigation voyage departing from Liverpool and taking in Iceland and the Scottish Isles. From areas of natural beauty such as the Hebrides archipelago to spectacular Icelandic volcanoes, there’s even the chance to pass beyond the arctic circle as you venture to Grimsey where birds outnumber humans 17,000 to 1.

  • Departure date: 10th May 2022 – Liverpool roundtrip

Half circumnavigation of the Land of Ice and Fire is a journey of serenity into pristine wilderness and some of nature’s most arresting scenery. Experience glittering fjords, gushing waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, towering volcanic peaks and bubbling springs. The 9-day voyage will visit 2,000-year-old Carloway Broch, Scotland’s best-preserved fort; the colourful east coast town Seyðisfjörður; and journey across the stunning Eyjafjörður fjord with the chance to see whales.

  • Departure date: 24th May 2022 – Liverpool roundtrip
