Main Restaurant

All the way forward on Cello Deck is the Main Restaurant. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served here in a relaxed, open-seating environment. Breakfast and dinner can be ordered off the menu or taken buffet-style, while dinners are a menu-driven affair, each offering their own, port-dependent local specialties.

The Chef’s Table

Join a few of your fellow travellers at The Chef’s Table, where the kitchen — usually hidden — becomes part of the entertainment. You’ll have the opportunity to watch the chef prepare a special multi-course meal right in front of you. The menu here is unique, making this a truly distinct gastronomic experience. Indulge in delectable dishes served with unlimited fine wines, hand-selected just for this dinner. It is the only venue of its kind on the river.

Fine Dining

Our expert chefs craft menus that feature exquisite, locally-inspired cuisine. Try local favourites like goulash while cruising through Hungary, or Camembert cheese while on the Seine, or something more familiar, like a steak. No matter what your preference, your taste buds are sure to be impressed.

A Variety of Dining Options

Enjoy a wide choice of dining options, with carefully crafted menus offering vegetarian and gluten free options, multi-course tasting menus, early-riser breakfasts and light lunches in the main lounge and on the sun deck. A selection of complimentary tapas, refreshments, tea, coffee and snacks are also available throughout the day.

La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs

AmaWaterways and President Rudi Schreiner were inducted into La Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, a prestigious international gastronomic society dedicated to fine cuisine. Founded in Paris in 1950 to honour the royal Guild of Goose Roasters (whose origins date back to the 13th century), it is the oldest and largest food and wine society in the world. Membership to La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is by invitation only and is extended to those possessing world-class culinary acumen. All of our ships in Europe are members and our onboard culinary team is united by a desire to share their expert knowledge of wine and fine dining with you.

The Drinks Are On Us – Sip & Sail

You will enjoy complimentary, unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks during lunch and dinner, as well as sparkling wine and fresh-squeezed juices during breakfast. We hand pick only the highest quality wines and pair them with our cuisine. You’ll have the chance to savour different wines on each day of your cruise.

Our reds and whites are of the highest quality, and come from local wineries and vineyards. It is a fantastic way to savour the flavour of each region you are visiting. Rieslings from the Wachau Valley, Sauternes in Bordeaux and Calvados from Normandy are just a few examples of how you can indulge.

Main Lounge & Bar

This versatile space hosts a bar, dance floor, plenty of comfortable couches and big windows on three sides and is used for everything from the morning port talks, daytime reading and chatting to scenic cruising, afternoon tea and evening entertainment.

OnBoard Entertainment

Whether it’s traditional Bavarian music, a local quartet or modern piano favourites, there is an eclectic schedule of entertainment on board.

Active Discovery

AmaWaterways was the first river cruise line to offer a complimentary fleet of bicycles onboard for guests who prefer a more active way to explore. In many destinations throughout Europe, guests can join guided bike tours or hiking excursions through cities, along scenic riverfronts or up to hilltop castles.

Onboard Wellness Programme

Professionally trained Wellness Hosts lead a variety of fitness classes onboard our ships, including yoga, core strengthening and circuit training. Free to participate and open to all abilities, our Wellness Programme adds another dimension to our river cruises fleetwide in Europe in 2019 (excluding Douro).

Wellbeing Workshops

Join the onboard Wellness Host for discussions with a focus on healthy eating and relaxation techniques. Take away some useful tools that will help you continue your wellness journey well after you disembark your cruise.

Small Group Excursions

Set your own pace on shore excursions. Enjoy the full attention of your guide. AmaWaterways ensures that you’re treated with personalized attention, on land as well as on the river. Their complimentary Small Group Shore Excursions provide a world-class land tour in every destination. They hire the top local guides in every location. They’re confident that you’ll find no more intensive and immersive introduction to the culture and heritage of the region you’re visiting. They offer a “Gentle Walkers” group, for those who’d like to explore at a more leisurely pace. Wherever possible, they offer an “Active Walkers” group, for those interested in covering more ground, and a “Late Starter” group for those who prefer to sleep in.

Complimentary Bicycles and Bike Tours

AmaWaterways originated the concept of putting bicycles aboard river cruise ships in Europe. The idea sprung from the fact that so many of Europe’s rivers are lined with paths that are perfect for pedalling. They’re the only river cruise line that carries more than two dozen bicycles and plenty of safety helmets that are free for you to use. The bicycles give you the freedom to venture out and explore the riverside bikeways. Or, meander through quaint cobblestone streets. The bikes are set up and ready for use as soon as the ship docks.

On-Shore Excursions

Disabled Facilities

Europe: Wheelchair accessibility is very limited on our European ships. We do have an elevator between the two main decks, however it does not reach the Sun deck or Piano deck. They would be able to move around the dining room and lounge in their chair, however the rooms are not able to accommodate a wheelchair, so while in their stateroom they would need to be able to move around on their own. Their chair would also need to be stored in their stateroom, due to limited storage on board. Getting on and off the ship, could be a challenge, as the planks are narrow and cannot accommodate a wheelchair or scooter’s width. They would have to be able to get on and off the ship without their wheelchair and the wheelchair would have to be light enough to be lifted off and on the ramps. It is common to tie up to other river ships in port. When this happens we would sometimes need to travel through another ship to disembark, with many ships requiring we do so from the Sun deck, where there is only stair access.

During the excursions, a good majority of the cities visited have the cobble stone walkways, this may be a challenge to manoeuvre with a wheelchair. The motor coaches we use as a main means of transport do not have any sort of lift and there are 4 or 5 steep steps to get on and off.

Vietnam, Cambodia & Africa: These itineraries require a person to be able bodied. There are many unpaved roads and the ships do not have elevators.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside any of the ships. Smoking is only permitted on the Sun Deck. For the safety and comfort of all passengers on board, your cooperation in observing the no-smoking policy is greatly appreciated.

Dietary Requirements

Please advise your Travel Agent or call us directly to advise if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies prior to embarkation. In most cases, we will do our best to accommodate special dietary requests and food allergies, but with one exception: Kosher. This diet has specific rules regarding food and its preparation and the shipboard environment does have limitations that prevent us from being able to adequately cater to this dietary need. Please note, though we can provide options to accommodate food allergies and sensitivities, we cannot guarantee there will not be any cross-contamination.

Dress Code

Comfortable “Casually Elegant” is the recommended attire for daytime, and to pack something a little dressier for the Captain’s night/Farewell Dinner – similar to how one would dress to dine at a 5-star restaurant. Comfortable shoes are recommended for excursions and workout clothing if you plan to take part in any wellness activities, active tours or use the onboard gym. Depending on the time of year, clothing that can be layered is highly recommended.

Vietnam & Cambodia: It is always advisable to travel light in Southeast Asia. For the hot and humid weather, lightweight easy-care clothing that includes some long-sleeved items for protection from mosquitoes and sun, raingear, and sturdy and comfortable walking shoes that you won’t mind getting wet or muddy. We also recommend you pack a few smart casual items to wear at the Welcome and Farewell dinners.

Africa: When traveling through Africa, it is always advisable to travel light as some itineraries baggage size and weight are strictly limited. On Safari: casual, easy-care clothing that includes some long-sleeved items for protection from mosquitoes and sun. Attire during Winter (April – September): it is wise to bring some warm clothes for chilly early morning and late night temperatures. Dressing in layers is also recommended, as temperatures rise quickly during the day.

Dining in Town: If you plan on dining at a fine restaurant in a city such as Cape Town or Johannesburg, “smart casual” is the norm – no ties for men or evening dresses for women are necessary.

Age Restrictions

Children under twelve years of age are not recommended on tours and cruises. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and share their accommodation with an adult.

Medical Facilities

Europe: There are no medical facilities on board. However medical services can easily be called from shore if required.

Vietnam & Cambodia: We do not employ doctors or nurses on board the ships. In the event medical assistance is needed, appropriate medical facilities will be contacted. Note that response time can vary.

Africa: We do not employ doctors or nurses on board the Zambezi Queen. In the event medical assistance is needed, appropriate medical facilities will be contacted. Note that response time can vary.

Giving Back

AmaWaterways is the proud sponsor of the ODA Free Village English School in Siem Reap, Cambodia, established in 2011 in association with Opportunities of Development thru Art (ODA). Our financial support to the school brings critical English-language skills to local children of grammar-school age to help improve their lives and assist with subsequent employment opportunities.

We are extremely honoured to participate in such a constructive and lasting project as this life-changing school. We encourage all AmaWaterways guests to visit this remarkable part of the world, known for its stunning temple complexes and the friendly people who live there.

Helping from Home

Our generous guests often ask if there is anything they can bring from home to donate to the ODA Free Village English School. There are more than 600 children enrolled in the school, so there are never enough books or educational materials to go around. If you are interested in making a contribution, we suggest:

Basic school supplies – pencils with erasers, erasers, pens, chalk, small notebooks, jumbo felt tip pens, post-it notes, dry erase markers (and blue and red ink refills), exercise books, highlighters, building blocks, large threading beads, paints, simple wooden jigsaw puzzles, laminated write-and-wipe books, UNO cards, and very simple storybooks with lots of pictures.

Personal hygiene supplies: soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and mini tubes of toothpaste.

If you prefer to make an online donation, please visit:

All donations made through this website are processed and collected by Project Kids Art, a 501(c)(3) registered in the United States. Donations made by U.S. citizens are tax-deductible. Funds are distributed to four village schools in the Siem Reap area, including the ODA Free Village English School. When making your donation, please make a note on PayPal’s Additional Comments field which reads “AmaWaterways Free English School.”

Thank you!
